01 / Overview

More and more ancient human fossils are being discovered on various continents, such as the Yuanmou Man and Shandingdong Man unearthed in China; Denisovans unearthed from Siberia; Neanderthals unearthed in Europe; And Homo sapiens unearthed from Africa. However, it is difficult to determine the genetic relationships between different populations solely based on archaeological and paleontological data. By studying the genomic data of modern and ancient humans, we can directly determine the genealogy relationships of different populations from this new perspective. Are they our ancestors? Genetic science can help us find answers to problems.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Through paleogenomics research, scientists analyze genomic data of modern and ancient humans to reveal genetic relationships among different populations. For example, the DNA of Neanderthals and Denisovans still exists in some modern populations, indicating genetic exchange between them and modern humans. Research shows that the direct ancestors of modern humans are mainly Homo sapiens, rather than ancient humans such as Yuanmou or Shandingdong.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
