01 / Overview

A nerve conduit is a medical device used to treat neurological disorders or injuries. A nerve conduit is a tubular structure that serves as a scaffold to facilitate the orderly and efficient process of nerve regeneration. Usually made of bioabsorbable or artificial materials, it can be implanted into the nervous system to promote nerve regeneration and repair. Neural conduits can be used to treat various neurological diseases or injuries, such as peripheral nerve injuries, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, etc.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The treatment plan for nerve transection involves outer membrane suturing surgery, where only the outer membrane is sutured and the internal nerve bundle self heals. However, the disadvantage is that it can easily lead to misalignment of nerve bundles, resulting in insufficient blood supply or pain caused by neuroma. Biomaterials have the advantage of guiding cell regeneration. However, traditional biomaterials are fragile and difficult to install, resulting in poor performance for long gaps. New biomaterials, such as the use of "nanofiber guided catheters" and temperature memory materials, have advantages such as automatic expansion of body temperature, biodegradability, good repair of long gaps, and simple usage.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
