01 / Overview

By interacting with two people, understand the scientific principles of sound focusing and sound transmission tubes. The exhibit consists of a sound transmission hall and a sound focusing device, which are placed in the air of the exhibit area. The sound tube collects sound at the bottom and delivers it to the upper sound focusing device, allowing the sound to be concentrated and released. Visitors can speak softly to one side of the pipe and hear the sound clearly from the other side. This is because when speaking, sound waves propagate along the pipeline to the concave surface. When the sound waves encounter the concave surface, they are reflected, and the other side of the concave surface receives the reflected sound waves and focuses them on the focal position. Then, they are transmitted through the sound transmission tube to the mouth of the tube. This phenomenon is called sound focusing. Sound focusing plays an important role in both geological exploration and medical imaging. Target audience: Adolescents aged 6-15 years old. Interactive display device operation instructions (audience experience) 1 Two visitors stand at designated positions respectively; 2. One of them whispered into the loudspeaker.

02 / How visitors use it

Interaction type: Interactive installation. The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Sound focusing refers to the phenomenon where a concave surface forms a concentrated reflection of sound waves, causing the reflected sound to focus on a certain area, resulting in a particularly loud sound in that area. Sound focusing can focus sound like the beam of a flashlight, and it is mainly used in many occasions such as museums, exhibit hall, theme parks, etc. Its main feature is that it can make the sound played in different areas not interfere with each other. 04 / Public-floor build

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
