01 / Overview

The exhibit consists of four independent transparent water tanks, a rotating handwheel, and a display screen. Each transparent water tank is equipped with sequins and propellers with different numbers or shapes of blades. The four propellers are connected to an external rotating handwheel through screws. visitors can observe the sequins and water flow effects driven by different propellers by rotating the handwheel to determine their different driving speeds. At the same time, cooperate with the display screen to assist in understanding Newton's third law and the design principles of propellers. This exhibit aims to help visitors understand the basic principles of Newton's Third Law and how the shape and number of propeller blades affect the relationship between thrust and water flow through mechanical interactive devices. Visitors can directly experience the power generated by the rotation of propellers and understand the impact of propeller shape and quantity design on ship performance.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

According to Newton's third law, the forces of action and reaction between two objects are always equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. When the propeller of a ship rotates, it generates a backward thrust on the water, while the water generates a forward thrust on the ship. As an important component for driving ships, the shape and number of blades of propellers have a significant impact on the power performance. Therefore, when designing propellers, engineers must find the optimal balance to optimize the ship's speed, maneuverability, and fuel efficiency.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
