01 / Overview

The exhibit introduces different types of cold water coral polyps and their main characteristics, survival strategies, reproduction methods, etc., especially bamboo coral, black coral, and purple coral. 1. Handheld holographic scanner. 2. Aim at the cold water coral of interest and wait for the instrument to recognize it. 3. The recognition is successful, and the holographic image in the scanner lights up. Observe the cold water coral from 360 degrees and check the text introduction. These corals living in deep sea cold water are ecological treasures in the deep sea, constructing one of the most unique and fragile ecosystems on Earth. Cold water coral forests have been found at depths ranging from several hundred meters to over 6000 meters underwater, with a suitable water temperature below 13 ° C. Unlike the warm water corals we are familiar with, cold water corals do not rely on sunlight or require symbiosis with single celled algae. They feed on plankton and sedimentary organic matter in seawater, constructing complex food chains in the deep sea and promoting material cycling and energy flow.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
