01 / Overview

The exhibit introduction allows visitors to learn about green technologies such as plastic waste degradation and fourth generation nuclear reactors through the film. What are the latest developments in plastic waste degradation technology? Although plastic waste cannot be truly degraded so far, scientists are breaking through this problem. In recent years, scientists have discovered bacteria that can decompose polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the main material of plastic bottles, mutated digestive enzymes that can efficiently degrade PET, and methods for decomposing the PET degradation product terephthalic acid (TPA). Therefore, it is expected to find a complete way to degrade this plastic. Chinese scientists have even discovered a method for producing biodegradable plastics using Bacillus subtilis spores. What are the latest developments in nuclear energy? The fourth generation reactors currently under development are expected to improve the safety of nuclear power plants while reducing nuclear waste, such as the (thorium based) molten salt reactor (MSR) technology producing less long half-life nuclear waste. Besides generating less waste.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
