01 / Overview

Exhibits Introduction The film introduces the types of islands and reefs in the South China Sea, their formation principles, the distribution of the four major islands in the eastern and western Nansha Islands, and the fact that South China Sea Islands are Chinese territory. The islands can be divided into continental islands, tidal islands, barrier islands, ocean islands (volcanic islands), coral islands, and artificial islands according to the formation mode. The South China Sea Islands are coral islands or volcanic islands, most of which are coral islands. The formation principle of coral islands and volcanic islands is that coral reefs are formed by marine animals such as corals. Coral forms a hard exoskeleton made of calcium carbonate material. A large number of corals can form huge reefs. Some coral reefs accumulate layer by layer from the seabed until they break through the water surface, forming coral islands. Volcanic islands are formed by volcanic eruptions on the ocean floor. Volcanic eruptions form layers of lava, which may eventually rise above the sea surface and form islands. There are four major islands in the South China Sea, namely the East, West, Central, and South China Sea. The South China Sea Islands have been Chinese territory since ancient times.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
