01 / Overview

Carbon capture and storage technology is a method of separating carbon dioxide from industrial or energy related emissions sources and storing it in geological structures or oceans. Carbon capture and storage mainly includes three processes: first, using chemical absorbents, physical adsorbents, or membrane separation technologies to capture carbon dioxide; Secondly, the captured carbon dioxide is transported through pipelines to the storage site; Finally, inject it into deep underground rock layers or oceans for long-term storage. Carbon capture and storage technology is widely used in high carbon emitting industries such as electricity, steel, and cement, providing an effective way to reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Carbon sequestration refers to the process of capturing and storing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through various methods, thereby reducing its concentration in the atmosphere and helping to mitigate climate change. The goal of carbon sequestration is to permanently fix carbon dioxide underground, in the ocean, or in other storage bodies to prevent its further release into the atmosphere. Geological carbon sequestration: This method involves injecting captured carbon dioxide into underground rock formations or saline aquifers to achieve permanent sequestration. These geological reservoirs are usually impermeable rocks that can prevent carbon dioxide from leaking to the surface. The storage depth is generally below 800m, at which point CO2 is in a liquid or supercritical state. Ocean carbon sequestration: This method involves injecting carbon dioxide into the bottom layer of the ocean, where it is sequestered by dissolving or reacting with salts in the water. Dissolved ocean sequestration transports CO2 to the deep sea, allowing it to naturally decompose and become a component of the natural carbon cycle.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
