01 / Overview

Sea level rise refers to the phenomenon of global sea level rise caused by global climate change, melting of polar glaciers, and thermal expansion of upper seawater. The main reason is that human activities emit greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide, methane, etc.), which trigger the "greenhouse effect" and lead to an increase in the surface temperature of the Earth. Rising sea levels will inundate coastal lowlands and islands, threatening the safety of coastal cities and residents. It will also lead to issues such as coastline retreat, intensified ocean erosion, and saltwater intrusion into freshwater resources, causing significant impacts on the ecological environment and socio-economic development.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The greenhouse effect causes glacier melting: when the Arctic ice sheet completely melts, sea levels will rise by about 7 meters; If all the ice on the Greenland ice sheet melts, it will cause a sea level rise of 7.2 meters; When the Antarctic ice sheet completely melts, global sea levels will rise by about 52 meters. City altitude: Venice 0m; St. Petersburg 1.2m; Bangkok 1.5m; Amsterdam 2m; Hamburg 2m; Shanghai 2.19m; London 24m; Berlin 35m; Tokyo 37m.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
