01 / Overview

A walkie talkie is a portable wireless communication device typically used for two-way voice communication. It uses radio waves for signal transmission, is easy to operate, and is suitable for use in environments without mobile phone signals. Interphones are widely used in various fields, such as security, construction, tourism, event organization, and military.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Old style radios are devices that can only receive radio waves. A walkie talkie is a device that can both receive and transmit radio waves. A walkie talkie with high power, large volume, and fixed installation in a certain place (car, ship) is called a wireless radio. A walkie talkie that has low power, small size, and can be held in the hand and moved around is called a handheld walkie talkie, which is also the most common walkie talkie we see.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
