01 / Overview

An electrocardiogram is a graphical representation of the changes in electrical activity produced by the heart. It captures the subtle changes in electrical current generated by the heart during each beat by placing electrodes on the surface of the body, and converts these changes into graphical records. Electrocardiogram can display the rhythm, heart rate, and electrical activity of the heart muscle, which is of great significance for diagnosing heart diseases.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The heart is the most important vital organ in the human body, and electrocardiogram is one of the most intuitive ways to reflect the signs of the heart. The normal pathway for electrocardiographic conduction is: sinoatrial node - internodal bundle - atrioventricular node - His bundle - left and right bundle branches - Purkinje fibers - ventricular muscle. Due to the three-dimensional structure of the heart, in order to reflect the electrical activity of different surfaces of the heart, we place electrodes in different parts of the human body to record and reflect the electrical activity of the heart.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
