01 / Overview

Hybrid breeding refers to the method of crossbreeding the male and female parents to form hybrid offspring with different genetic diversity, and then selecting new varieties with excellent traits from both parents. Hybrid breeding is widely used to increase crop yield, improve crop quality, and enhance crop resistance, and is an important means of improving crop performance in modern agriculture. In addition to the citrus family hybrid breeding presented in this exhibit, another famous hybrid breeding case is the hybrid rice cultivated by Chinese scientist Yuan Longping, which has significantly increased yield per mu compared to ordinary rice, not only ensuring China's food security, but also making outstanding contributions to solving the world hunger problem.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Hybrid breeding is a common breeding method in practice, which refers to the hybridization of male and female parents to form hybrid offspring with different genetic diversity, and then screen for new varieties with excellent traits of both parents.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
