A standard catalogue model: the dimensions, control package and finish are fixed, which is what keeps the price and the lead time predictable. Size, colour and interface language can be adapted without a new design cycle.

Throughout the evolution of life on Earth, change is an eternal 'law of survival'. Due to changes, species have evolved from simple to complex and are able to adapt to new environments. The change of species usually begins with genetic mutations, and the trajectory of this change can be clearly observed in organisms that indicate a transition from an old form to a new form. The species presented in the exhibits are precisely these organisms that represent key steps in the evolution of life.
The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.
Gene mutation is the core mechanism of life evolution, providing species with the "raw materials" to adapt to environmental changes. Natural selection selects advantageous mutations and drives the evolution of species from simple to complex and from low to high levels. It is this constantly changing evolutionary process that has created a rich and diverse range of life forms on Earth.
Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
