01 / Overview

Micro expression is a psychological term that refers to the brief facial expressions that humans unconsciously make when attempting to conceal certain emotions. This expression usually lasts very short, ranging from a few milliseconds to several hundred milliseconds, usually between 0.04 seconds and 0.20 seconds. It can reveal the true emotions that people are trying to suppress or hide, and is therefore considered a true manifestation of emotions that are not subject to individual self-control.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Micro expressions: When people encounter a certain situation, the brain automatically recognizes the emotions corresponding to that situation, which in turn triggers physiological reactions in the body. These physiological reactions affect the movement of facial muscles, resulting in small, transient facial expression changes, which are called micro expressions.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
