01 / Overview

Whether humans are lonely in the universe is an unanswered question. The Drake equation, as a method for estimating the number of civilizations in the Milky Way that may communicate with us, takes into account multiple factors such as star formation rate, the proportion of stars with planets, the number of planets suitable for life, the proportion of planets capable of evolving life, the proportion of planets capable of evolving intelligent life, the proportion of intelligent life capable of interstellar communication, and the average lifespan of civilizations. Although we cannot draw a definite conclusion through the Drake equation, it suggests the possibility of other intelligent life forms in the universe. Therefore, whether humans are lonely in the universe still requires more scientific research and exploration to reveal.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The Drake equation was invented by Dr. Frank Drake, an American astronomer and member of the National Academy of Sciences. This equation is used to calculate the number of highly intelligent civilizations (N) that may come into contact with Earth and indicate the information lacking in the search for extraterrestrial life. The Drake equation has seven variables, which are the number of stars born in the Milky Way each year (R *); The probability of the star having planets (Fp); The number of planets with conditions for the birth of life (Ne); The probability of the birth of life (Fe); The probability of the life evolving into an intelligent organism (Fi); The probability of having the technology to communicate with other planets (Fc); The time that this technological civilization can exist (L). Specifically, it can be expressed as: N=R * x Fp x Ne x Fe x Fi x Fc x L. In the past twenty years (especially in recent years), outside the department.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
