01 / Overview

Searching for celestial bodies is the first step in embarking on an astronomical exploration journey. In the celestial equatorial coordinate system, the functions of right ascension and declination are the same as longitude and latitude in geographic coordinates. They are used to determine the position coordinates of celestial bodies on the celestial sphere and help us locate them in the sky. And the attributes of celestial bodies such as magnitude, mass, distance, radius, brightness, and temperature can assist us in distinguishing different celestial bodies during exploration.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Select the 13 brightest stars in the local sky of Shenzhen on the winter solstice night of 2024, namely: Pleiades, Sirius, Laoren, Wuche 2, Betelgeuse 7, Nanhe 3, Betelgeuse 4, Bisu 5, Beihe 3, Xuanyuan 14, Wuche 5, Tianshu, and North Star (Gou Chen 1). The following knowledge points are popular science: how to find stars. Right ascension/declination: In a celestial equatorial coordinate system similar to a geographic coordinate system, the functions of right ascension and declination are the same as longitude and latitude in geographic coordinates. The symbol alpha of the right ascension, also known as RA, is measured in hours, minutes, and seconds. The zero point of the right ascension is the vernal equinox. The declination symbol is δ, also known as DEC. The units are degrees, arcminutes, and arcseconds. The celestial equator is 0 degrees, the declination degrees in the northern hemisphere are positive, and the declination degrees in the southern hemisphere are negative. Visual magnitude: The brightness of celestial bodies observed by humans from Earth, with stars outside the solar system visible to the human eye ranging from -1.0 to 6.0. The smaller the value, the brighter it appears. Visual magnitude reflection.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.

Attach a theme outline, a floor plan, or nothing at all — a photo of the space is enough to start. Quotations are issued against a real exhibit list, not per-square-metre guesses.
