01 / Overview

The exhibit mainly consists of computers and three 85 inch LCD TVs (infrared frames). When unmanned, the LCD TV continuously plays the restored images of all known experimental cabinet scenes, the main column section of Tianhe core cabin, and the real scene inside the laboratory cabin. When visitors enters the internal channel of the Tiangong vessel, they click on the screen to select the container free material experimental cabinet, medical sample analysis and high micro gravity science experimental cabinet, and understand the characteristics, differences and functions of different experimental cabinets in the Tianhe core module.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The scientific experiment cabinet can be divided into 12 disciplinary direction experiment cabinets and 4 shared support experiment cabinets according to their purposes. In addition to the dedicated scientific experiment cabinets, there are still 7 experiment cabinets with vacant space on the space station. Independent loads inside the cabin can be designed in the form of standard module combinations and inserted into the vacant experiment cabinets for experiments. The vacant experimental cabinet is equipped with independent load support facilities inside the cabin, which can provide shared support for mechanical installation, heat dissipation, information and power supply for independent loads inside the cabin. As of April 2024, the Chinese space station has implemented more than 130 scientific research and application projects in orbit, and has carried out 5 batches of over 300 scientific experimental samples using the Shenzhou-12 to Shenzhou-16 manned flight missions. More than 500 domestic and foreign research institutes have participated in the research, and important achievements have been made in the fields of space life sciences, space medicine, space materials science, microgravity fluid physics, and so on.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
