In 1668, Newton created the first reflective telescope, hoping to solve the problem of chromatic aberration in refractive telescope imaging. Refractive telescopes scatter light during the process of refraction, causing color distortion in the resulting image. Using mirrors instead of lenses to make telescopes can avoid this problem. The reflecting telescope made by Newton consists of a parabolic concave mirror and a plane mirror pair. Afterwards, this type of reflective telescope was collectively referred to as a Newtonian telescope. After the invention of the Newton telescope, various reflective telescopes gradually occupied an important position in the field of astronomical observation. They not only brought numerous observational achievements in the 18th and 19th centuries, but also become the main equipment for many astronomical observations today.
The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.
The Newton astronomical telescope is a reflective telescope, and its scientific principles are based on Newton's reflective optical design. This telescope consists of a primary mirror and a secondary mirror, with the primary mirror being a concave mirror and the secondary mirror being a flat mirror. When light enters the Newton telescope, it first reflects off the primary mirror and onto the secondary mirror, which then reflects off and ultimately enters the observer's eye through the eyepiece. Since the main mirror is a concave mirror, it can gather more light, making the observed object brighter. Reflective telescopes have improved the problem of chromatic aberration in refracting telescopes and become mainstream astronomical observation telescopes. In fact, reflective telescopes are divided into Newtonian, Gregorian, and Cassegrain types, and many great astronomical discoveries in the 18th and 20th centuries were made using reflective telescopes.
Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
