01 / Overview

Astronaut rotation seat training is one of the basic training subjects for astronauts. It uses a multi axis rocking swivel chair that can quickly rotate 360 degrees clockwise and counterclockwise, and combines various motion modes such as up and down, front and back, left and right swinging. During training, astronauts need to wear eye masks and fix their heads, feet, and arms to simulate weightlessness and lost spatial orientation in the universe. The aim is to enhance astronauts' anti dizziness ability, check their vestibular function, and evaluate their tolerance to vibration and dizziness. In addition, this training can also help astronauts maintain clear thinking and stable emotions in space to effectively respond to possible emergencies or challenges.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The inner ear vestibule is a balance sensing organ in the human body. When astronauts control spacecraft and experience two or three degrees of freedom rotation and rapid linear motion, if the signals feedback to the central nervous system from the inner ear vestibule and visual perception are inconsistent, dizziness, nausea, and other conditions may occur. The training of rotating seats can enhance the vestibular function of astronauts' inner ear, improve their ability to resist dizziness, and better complete space missions. The rotating seat can automatically pitch back and forth and swing left and right through various movements such as horizontal rotation with uniform angular velocity, uniform angular acceleration, and variable angular acceleration in both forward and reverse directions, creating a complex stimulating environment that causes spatial motion sickness symptoms in subjects, achieving the goal of endurance selection and training for astronauts. After the swivel chair is activated, it needs to rotate once every 2 seconds. If an untrained ordinary person is sitting on a rotating chair, they will soon feel dizzy, dizzy, and their heart will beat wildly. Astronauts need to undergo 15 minutes of chair rotation training to be qualified.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
