01 / Overview

Based on the principles of electrostatic balance and electrostatic induction, a sharp metal rod is placed at the top of a building and connected to an underground metal plate through a thick wire to ensure good contact with the ground, which becomes a lightning rod. When a charged thunderstorm cloud approaches a building, due to the effect of electrostatic induction, a charge opposite to that of the cloud layer appears on the metal rod. Through discharge at the tip, these charges are continuously released into the atmosphere, neutralizing the charges in the air. In addition, lightning rods also provide a conductive channel for lightning to safely flow into the ground through lightning rods, achieving the goal of avoiding lightning strikes. Operating instructions: Select to retract the lightning rod, press the discharge switch, and observe whether the building is affected by the sharp discharge. Choose to raise the lightning rod, press the discharge switch, and verify the effectiveness of the lightning rod in guiding the current away from the building. Press the button and observe the lightning discharge on the tree, illuminating the cartoon character lightbox.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
