01 / Overview

The publication of "A Journey to the Moon" in 1902, as the world's first color short film, was born thanks to a studio consisting of 200 women who personally drew colorful images on film. visitors simulates the complexity of coloring techniques in early films, watches the final color segments presented in this masterpiece, and thus understands the evolution of films from black and white to color.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

With the birth of movies, the bright and colorful world in black and white lenses has become the goal that film pioneers continue to strive for. Meili Ai successfully showcased the special effects film "Journey to the Moon" on the big screen through intricate artificial coloring techniques. Afterwards, the double-sided coating method, silver float method, and dye printing method also gradually changed the production technology of color movies. In 1902, the first person to demonstrate the natural color film system was British inventor Edward Raymond Turner, who invented Kinemacolor. Turner's machine uses a rotating disc with three color filters to capture color separation on a roll of black and white film. Record red, green, or blue filtered images on each consecutive frame of film. The completed film print is projected three frames at a time through the corresponding color filter. In 1899, Edward R. Turner.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
