01 / Overview

In 1994, a 64K (transmission rate) international dedicated line was connected to the Internet from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, realizing a full functional connection between China and the Internet. From that moment on, an Internet cable set off a wave of Internet in China, changing the way of life and thinking of countless people. The network is mainly composed of hosts, network devices, and network media. The host provides interactive services; Network equipment mainly consists of routers and switches, responsible for data exchange and forwarding; Network media is the carrier of data transmission, which can be divided into two categories: wireless and wired. Wired media include fiber optics, coaxial cables, and twisted pair cables. There are significant differences between home networks and mobile networks in terms of access methods, technical standards, transmission frequencies, channels, and network structures, making them suitable for different scenarios and needs.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The Internet originated in the United States in 1969, initially to meet the military needs of the Cold War. Subsequently, it developed into a global medium for information exchange. The network is mainly composed of hosts, network devices, and network media. Hosts provide interactive services, while network devices such as routers and switches are responsible for connection. Network media includes network cables, fiber optics, etc. There are significant differences between home and mobile networks in terms of origin, technical standards, frequency and channel usage, and network structure, which make them suitable for different scenarios and needs. Optical modem is a converter between fiber broadband interface and fiber optic module, router is a device that connects various local area networks and wide area networks in the Internet, and splitter (i.e. optical splitter) is a connecting device for multiple input and output ends, and is the most important component of fiber optic link. Under the joint action of these key devices, the network has been put into operation.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.

We will come back with a price.

Attach a theme outline, a floor plan, or nothing at all — a photo of the space is enough to start. Quotations are issued against a real exhibit list, not per-square-metre guesses.
