Compressed air energy storage refers to the energy storage method of using surplus electricity to compress air during low load periods of the power grid, sealing and storing high-pressure air in scrapped mines, salt caverns, underwater gas storage facilities, natural caves, abandoned oil and gas wells, etc., and releasing compressed air to drive steam turbines to generate electricity during peak load periods of the power grid.
The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.
Compressed air energy storage technology is a physical energy storage technology developed based on gas turbine technology, which has the characteristics of large energy storage scale, long discharge time, low construction and operation costs, and long service life. The intermittency of new energy sources leads to significant differences between peak and valley periods in the power grid, increasing the difficulty of power balance. Building a new power system with large-scale energy storage is crucial for achieving carbon targets. Salt cavern (underground cavern) compressed air energy storage, using non peak electricity to compress air and store it in underground salt caverns, and releasing energy for power generation during peak electricity consumption, is becoming a new trend in energy storage development under the background of depleted pumped storage resources.
Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
