01 / Overview

1G is the first generation mobile communication technology that supports analog voice calls; 2G is the second generation mobile communication technology that supports digital voice and SMS. From 1G to 2G, the core lies in the transition from analog signals to digital signals, introducing multiple access technologies such as TDMA and GSM, significantly improving call quality, signal stability, and spectrum utilization. At the same time, SMS functionality has been added, greatly enhancing the convenience and reliability of communication.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The first generation mobile communication system broke the traditional technical concept of regional radio broadcasting and radio stations, based on cellular structure frequency division multiple access technology, improved the efficiency of spectrum utilization, and basically ensured the continuity of voice services in mobile scenarios, laying the foundation for the rapid popularization and application of mobile communication.. The second generation mobile communication system is a narrowband digital cellular system that uses time division multiple access or code division multiple access technology. The second generation mobile communication system has greatly improved in capacity and performance compared to the first generation system, providing not only voice services but also low-speed data services.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
