01 / Overview

Interact with the transverse wave device to understand transverse waves. The exhibit consists of transverse wave devices and interactive devices connected to the ceiling of the exhibit hall. A row of hard rods are arranged equidistant and parallel, and the series connection in the middle can transmit torque. visitors rotates the handwheel, and the torque is transmitted to the hard rod through a synchronous belt. The torque gradually transmits upwards, forming an oscillating waveform. Target audience: Adolescents aged 6-15. Display format: Electromechanical interactive device operation instructions (audience experience) 1 Rotate the handwheel to drive the device to form a wave motion; 2. Understand transverse waves. Describing the intrinsic connections between storylines and exhibits in wave theory, known as transverse waves.

02 / How visitors use it

Interaction type: Electromechanical interactive. The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

1. Mechanical waves are waves that propagate through a material medium (solid, liquid, or gas). There are two basic types of mechanical waves: longitudinal waves and transverse waves. 2. In transverse waves, particle displacement is perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. The screen displays a one-dimensional transverse plane wave propagating from left to right. Particles do not move with waves; When waves pass by, they only oscillate up and down at their respective equilibrium positions. The S-wave (secondary wave) in an earthquake is an example of a transverse wave. S-waves propagate at a slower speed than P-waves. Shear waves are a type of wave characterized by the direction of particle motion being perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. Light waves, radio waves, water waves, etc. are all transverse waves. Reference materials.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
