01 / Overview

By observing the process of demonstrating the model, understand the wonderful principle of perspective. Demonstrate the principles of perspective through models. The exhibit consists of a set of models and scenery boxes with perspective illusions. The glass of the scenic box is printed with deformed patterns, and a physical model is placed inside the box. Visitors can walk to a special angle and see that the deformed patterns match the actual object perfectly. Simultaneously displaying a set of models, upon approaching, it was discovered that the concave areas seen in the distance were actually convex, while the convex areas were concave. Target audience: Adolescents aged 6-15. Demonstration model operation instructions (audience experience) 1 Observe the deformation patterns on the glass of the scenic box and the physical models inside the box; 2. Walk to the designated location and observe the overlapping of the deformed pattern with the actual object; 3. Observe the physical model from a distance and a close distance, and observe the convexity and concavity of the physical model. Description of the intrinsic connections between the storyline and exhibits.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

1. Principles of perspective: ① Vertical perspective. Draw an object on the plane that is far from the viewer onto an object that is close to the viewer. ② Oblique perspective. Objects that are far from the viewer extend upwards along the diagonal axis. 2. The most obvious phenomenon in geometric perspective is the convergence of parallel lines, which, like a highway or railway extending into the distance, becomes smaller as it gets farther and larger as it gets closer. We can use this geometric perspective principle to draw the spatial distance of any object. Sometimes, the shape of an object can also appear visually as large in the near and small in the far. Graphics of the same size feel the same distance, while graphics of different sizes feel larger closer and smaller farther. Similarly, any object, due to its position in space being different from that of the viewer, will also have a difference in height in the picture, resulting in a sense of space. When viewed from above, graphics of different sizes appear higher in the distance and lower in the proximity.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
