A standard catalogue model: the dimensions, control package and finish are fixed, which is what keeps the price and the lead time predictable. Size, colour and interface language can be adapted without a new design cycle.

01 / Overview

The brain is composed of the left and right hemispheres and is the largest part of the human brain. The cerebral cortex is a highly concentrated area of neurons, which is the advanced neural center that controls movement, generates sensation, and achieves advanced brain functions. The left and right cerebral hemispheres cross to control the left and right parts of the body. The exhibit consists of a brain model and a robot, with many metal contacts distributed on the brain model, representing the control areas of the brain. The exhibits mainly showcase the brain's zoning for controlling human motor function.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

In the 1930s, neurosurgeon Wilder Penfield created a motion map of dwarves to visualize human brain function. Dwarf motion diagram, also known as leather figurine, includes two types: motion figurine and sensory figurine. Sports figures correspond to the brain regions responsible for the motor functions of various parts of the human body. The primary motor cortex of the brain is located in the precentral gyrus and processes signals transmitted from the prefrontal cortex. Sensory figures correspond to the brain regions responsible for sensory functions in various parts, with the main sensory cortex located in the central posterior gyrus, processing signals transmitted from the thalamus.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
