01 / Overview

Our basic emotions include happiness, sadness, disgust, and anger, which are processed by multiple neural circuits in the brain. Different brain regions work together to regulate and experience various basic emotions. Please recall an important memory and the feelings it brought you, and express your emotions by creating a glowing memory ball.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Basic emotions include happiness, sadness, anger, fear, disgust, etc. These emotions are believed to be innate in humans and animals and play an important role in survival and adaptation to the environment during evolution. Compound emotions are composed of a combination of basic emotions, such as anxiety being a mixture of fear and worry, jealousy being a synthesis of emotions such as anger, sadness, and shame. The generation of emotions is influenced by various factors, including external environmental stimuli (such as encountering dangerous situations), internal physiological states (such as changes in hormone levels), and cognitive processes (such as evaluating and interpreting events).

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
