01 / Overview

The brain is a soft tissue that is susceptible to physical impacts. Therefore, when engaging in potentially dangerous activities such as cycling, skating, or high-altitude sports, people must wear suitable helmets to protect their heads from impact.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The human brain is as soft as tofu, but not as fragile as tofu. The brain is not only covered by the hard bone known as the skull, but also wrapped by three types of brain membranes: the hard arachnoid membrane and the soft membrane. The space is filled with transparent cerebrospinal fluid, making the brain appear floating. Due to this buoyancy, people can minimize the impact force on their heads when engaging in vigorous activities. Impact is the biggest risk factor for brain damage. Wearing a helmet during intense exercise is a good protective measure. The spherical object aggregated in the helmet can absorb most of the impact force through its deformation, reducing the impact force on the mind.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
