01 / Overview

Sensors are like the "facial features" of artificial intelligence, serving as the foundation for AI to perceive the environment and achieve human-computer interaction. The human ears are sound sensors, while artificial intelligence collects and perceives sound through devices such as microphones. The exhibit showcases the ability of artificial intelligence to distinguish between sound and position. It collects sound information through four directional microphones, which can determine the position, speed, and direction of the ball in real time.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Robot auditory perception not only refers to the recognition of human speech, but also includes the judgment of sound emitted by all objects through sound sensors. Sound source localization technology is one of the main auditory perception technologies for robots. For example, in inspection tasks, the auditory perception of robots can help them quickly locate abnormal sound sources and monitor the noise status of industrial equipment in real time. Empowering machines with auditory perception in industry can enable manufacturers to identify signs of damage early on, reduce unplanned downtime, coordinate workshop workflows, and improve overall factory efficiency.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
