01 / Overview

Brain waves are a manifestation of neuronal activity in the brain. It reflects the electrical activity of the brain by detecting the bioelectric signals generated during information transmission between neurons in the brain. By recording and analyzing these radio waves, scientists can better understand the working mechanism of the brain.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

Brain waves are a method of recording brain activity using electrophysiological indicators. When the brain is active, a large number of neurons synchronously produce postsynaptic potentials that are summed up to form. It records the changes in electrical waves during brain activity, which is the overall reflection of the electrophysiological activity of brain nerve cells in the cerebral cortex or scalp surface. The brainwave originates from the postsynaptic potential of dendrites at the top of pyramidal cells. The formation of synchronous rhythms in brainwaves is also related to the activity of non-specific projection systems in the cortex thalamus. Modern scientific research has shown that the human brain produces spontaneous electrophysiological activity during operation, which can be expressed in the form of brainwaves through specialized EEG recorders. In EEG research, there are at least four important bands, namely δ, θ, α, and β.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
