01 / Overview

The cerebellum is an important part of the human body's motor system, responsible for balance, posture, gait, and motor coordination. If you walk unsteadily when drunk, it is because alcohol affects the function of the cerebellum, weakening its regulatory ability.

02 / How visitors use it

The unit is designed for unsupervised public use: controls are recessed or shielded, moving parts are enclosed, and the interface is operable by a child of about six with no instruction. Where a screen is used, the language can be switched without changing the hardware, and the content can be replaced on site.

03 / The science behind it

The cerebellum is located in the posterior lower part of the brain, in the posterior fossa of the skull, on the back of the medulla oblongata and pons. It can be divided into the central vermis and the enlarged cerebellar hemispheres on both sides. The cerebellum also plays an important role in maintaining body balance. It receives information from the vestibular organs, changes the tension of muscles in different parts of the body through transmission, and maintains posture balance when the body accelerates or rotates under the action of gravity. For example, when a person is drunk and walks unsteadily, it is because alcohol paralyzes the cerebellum and reduces its ability to regulate.

04 / Built for a public floor

Every unit leaves the factory after a running test: mechanisms cycled, electronics burned in, edges dressed, fixings torqued and marked. Wear parts — bearings, sliders, lamps, belts, touch panels — are modular and listed on the spare-part sheet, so a venue technician can replace them without returning the exhibit. Crating is plywood with foam blocking; the loading plan and packing list travel with the shipment.
